This striking cuff bracelet is bold yet delicate due to its intricately carved open and organic structure. The form was inspired by the Australian Banksia Pod, hand-carved in wax and then cast. When this particular wax was pulled from the mold, it broke in several spots. Instead of discarding it, I repaired the broken area with something unexpected. I was reminded of the Japanese craft of Kintsugi in which a broken object is joined together in a way that celebrates the repair instead of hiding it. 

The broken section felt like a natural fit for this lustrous peach-colored pearl sitting on my bench, waiting for a home. I created a special setting for it, seamlessly joining the piece back together to create a truly one-of-a-kind cuff. A broken piece that is put back together has more of a story to tell. The pearl, reminiscent of a precious treasure ensnared in a delicate net, adds an element of surprise and transforms an imperfection into something of great beauty.
