Slide Design Series

First of an eight part series exploring the inspiration and process behind Kirsten’s signature design forms and collections.

Kirsten’s approach to jewelry design is sculptural, guided by everything from art, music, and culture to nature’s fluid forms and organic architecture. Her Slide Design Series is deeply influenced by the work of Isamu Noguchi, particularly his 1986 sculpture, Slide Mantra. Noguchi’s belief that play can deepen our appreciation of sculpture is reflected in this collection, where each piece invites both interaction and contemplation.

The bold forms, with their smooth, flowing curves and unexpected angles, evoke a sense of movement and fluidity reminiscent of Noguchi’s gardens and landscapes, where each element creates harmony within asymmetry. Softly brushed surfaces, punctuated by highly polished mirrored edges and patinated cave-like hollows, create a dialogue between light and shadow.

This series also pays homage to the idea of sculpture as an intimate, personal experience. Just as Noguchi’s sculptures invite viewers to engage with them from multiple perspectives, these pieces are designed to be experienced as tactile, interactive objects on and off the body. The sensual carving draws the eye to unexpected details, textures, and colors, creating a connection between the piece and wearer, offering a moment of quiet introspection amidst the rhythms of daily life.
