Willow Design Series
Third of an eight-part series exploring the inspiration and process behind Kirsten’s signature design forms and collections.
I’ve always been drawn to the Willow, enchanted by beautiful storybook illustrations and the tree's melancholic presence in mythology, folklore, and poetry. Playing in the woods by a Weeping Willow felt like stepping behind a magical curtain, its golden-green drape forming a hidden world. Pussy Willows, their velvety buds soft between my fingers, became tiny treasures perfect for weaving into wreaths. The twisting branches of the Corkscrew Willow fascinated me with their sculptural movement, ideal for ikebana arrangements.
A harbinger of Spring, Willows are among the first trees to break dormancy and flower, providing essential pollen and nectar for bees and other pollinators. Thriving by the water’s edge, their adaptability and quiet strength make them symbols of renewal. These qualities guided the creation of my Willow Design Series, where organic textures meet refined metalwork.

Inspired by Nature’s Details
The willow has been utilized in art, design, construction, and literature for centuries. It often represents grace and resilience with its long, flexible branches moving with the wind, never breaking, always adjusting. That idea carries through in this collection—lightweight yet substantial pieces that move and grow with the wearer.
Earrings with subtle curves, rings shaped like flowering buds, bracelets that stack and drape like woven branches. These pieces are designed to be layered and offer a tactile and organic connection to nature.

From Carving to Casting
The Willow series began with hand-carved wax models loosely inspired by the nubby catkin buds. I reinterpret the clusters and growth patterns while capturing the organic shapes and textures. Once cast in metal, the pieces are refined, combining smooth, high-polished edges with matte or textured surfaces. The pieces are sculptural but wearable, detailed but not fussy. They work seamlessly into any collection—timeless designs meant to be worn daily, evolving with you over time.
When I am among the trees,
especially the willows…
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

Catkin Pinky Ring
This elegant band makes a perfect pinky ring but can be made for any finger. The carving wraps elegantly around the finger, with its smooth sides allowing your hand to close comfortably around the ring.
Willow Rings
The beauty of the willow shines in this hand-carved band. Like a garland heralding Spring, this ring feels fresh and alive. Stack two together for a bold display.
Willow Bangles
A simple, yet striking silhouette, these are my go-to everyday pieces, graceful and effortless. I love wearing two at a time as they make the loveliest sound when they dangle and touch.
Willow Hoop Earrings
The beauty and ease of the willow branch inspired these light everyday hoops. The edges have a high-polished finish, adding striking depth to the carved forms.
Willow Cuffs
The cuff drapes closely around the wrist and features lovely detailed carving throughout, with sweet accents at each end. This piece will add dimension and tactile delight to your favorite bracelet stack.
